Évry – The whole police remembers the anger generated by the case: 13 young men suspected of having badly burned two police officers with Molotov badtails in Viry-Châtillon (Essonne) in 2016, were sent back to the police seated.

The magistrates instructors followed the requisitions of the prosecution of Evry: in a document dated July 6, they order a trial for 13 of the 17 individuals indicted. Four others are dismissed for lack of sufficient information.

The 13 defendants, three of whom were minors at the time of the facts, will answer to the badize court of minors of attempted murder of a person in charge of the public authority. The trial is still uncertain: several lawyers contest the decision of the investigating judges and appealed.

October 8, 2016 remains etched in the memory of the police family. That day, two silkscreened cars parked at the edge of the Grande Borne, a difficult city straddling Grigny and Viry-Châtillon (Essonne). Their mission: to protect a surveillance camera placed on the " crossroads of Fournil ", several times targeted because it interferes with the thefts with violence regularly committed on the motorists with the red light.

In their vehicles, the four policemen are surprised by 19 badailants, hooded and gloved. They break the windows and throw Molotov badtails into the cabin. Appraisal: two agents badly burned, two more slightly. Since the attack, the most seriously injured policeman has had several skin grafts in his face.

The attack revolted the police and provoked an unprecedented sling in the institution. Many police had braved their duty of reserve and parade for several weeks in Paris and elsewhere in France to express their " Malay " in the face of " hate anti-cops ", and denounce the lack of means.

" The attack has profoundly affected the police community and the outcome of the proceedings is a satisfaction ," Jean-François Papineau, the departmental director of public security, told AFP Essonne, affirming its " support " to the four victims.

– Omerta and " Rumors " –

The investigation quickly focused on a group of young people known to the Grande Borne: most of the accused belong to the band of " S ", as" Serpente ", from the name of the street where they used to gather. Some were unknown to the judiciary, but others already have a record marked by heavy violence.

Without compelling evidence, the investigators ran into the neighborhood omerta. According to the elements consulted by AFP, it is an anonymous witness who made the investigations take off. He would have received the " confidences " of participants in the attack and designated three brains belonging to the " S ": " Lookaz ", " Kossdar "and" Roro ".

Charges partially corroborated by another overwhelming witness: a member of the " S ", which refers to a preparatory meeting for the attack. After these revelations, the young man exiled himself to Mali, for fear of reprisals.

Listening of the main suspects reveals the pressure exerted between them. Suspected of having been a little too happy with a friend, " Roro " was beaten before his indictment. In hearings and confrontations, most suspects denied any involvement in the attack, or downplayed their presence on the scene.

" The investigation is based on rumors of city, contradictory and imprecise, peddled anonymously ," said Arnaud Simonard, lawyer of one of the accused. For him, " a non-place is required in the total absence of solid charges or material evidence ".

" In group violence like this, there is never a confession ," retorts Thibault de Montbrial, a policewoman's lawyer. " We have 13 people who will say that they were not there, even against conclusive evidence ". For example, one of the suspects was mistaken for his bandage in his hand.

The investigating chamber must now rule and say whether the charges are sufficient to try the 13 suspects in front of the badizes.

" We expect a trial and penalties to the height of the facts ", continues Thibault de Montbrial. " My client was stoned while she was burning, it was really savagery ".
