"Invitation Renault Trucks". There must be an error, we make the car us … It seems that no, no mistake, we receive an invitation from a truck manufacturer. Many questions, little details on the organization and a mysterious limited edition Renault Sport colors: embark with me for an unprecedented driving experience!
Small historical return on the brand of heavy goods, because if Renault Trucks and Renault Sport have the same diamond on the grille and a common name, the comparison stops there since the car group has no part in the manufacturer of St-Priest near the Lyonnaise region since 2012. Entré in the Renault Trucks capital since 2002, the Volvo Group is now the owner and majority shareholder. The two brands thus share know-how, technologies and, above all, engines, although the entire Renault Trucks range remains "100% Made in France". This is the range "long distance" that we will be interested today because on the occasion of the presentation of the latest limited edition "Renault Sport Racing" Renault Trucks T High, the manufacturer has invited about fifteen bloggers at the pre-premiere presentation on the Bresse circuit, but above all, to an unprecedented driving experience for many of us, since very few were the participants in having a heavyweight license.
become a tradition, each year Renault Trucks offers a limited edition of about one hundred copies of one of these flagship products. After the Alpine edition limited to 89 copies last year, it is once again a division of the Renault group that is in the spotlight. The modifications concern only the design and the exterior / interior accessories. The engine, a V8 13 L of 520 hp truck couple (I had to do it) of 2600 Nm (!!!) remains unchanged. The T High is adorned with the sumptuous three-layer yellow Sirius hue, black strippings on the bodywork, a Gloss Black grille, a matching black logo and finally an aluminum plate for the exact number of the copy from the limited edition, here 100 copies all round for some European countries. Inside, the seats are adorned with leather on the thigh and lumbar supports up to the headrest and proudly sport fine yellow stitching not unlike the garish outer shade. The air vents also have the right to a yellow strapping while cladding all along the center console are also unpublished.
But apart from the F1 Team Renault Sport Racing may well be interested in a such limited edition on what remains do not forget a work tool first and foremost? What could be the profile of the boss willing to invest a large sum in a semi with colors other than those of his own company? Well, according to the press relations Renault Trucks, a lot of people finally! This goes from the head of a large company that wants something a little out of the ordinary in its fleet of vehicles to the boss of SMEs with only 5-6 trucks but all more unique than each other. I learn that for several years, a certain person buys each year the limited edition proposed by Renault Trucks, this "Renault Sport Racing Edition" surely will not escape the rule.
But what interests you surely the the more it is undoubtedly "what does it mean to drive a truck?"
A little weird I must admit … Rather fervent amateur (and defender!) of Light is Right the heavyweight is the opposite of what concerns me as a rule. And surely wrong, as the complexity of the product and the digest of innovations inside make it something much more advanced than our beloved cars we are used to. Everything is oversized, wheels, brakes and even the steering wheel. Renault Trucks had put together a nice program for the day: simulator with dynamic seat on cylinders, session discovery of the driving of a heavy weight on several laps of circuits with maneuvers at the key, exercise of address with mini-trucks RC and finally photo shoot around the Renault Sport universe. It is therefore especially from the "driving" session that I am going to talk to you
I take my seat aboard the cabin, perched several meters high. There is a large driving position in front of me and a good meter separates me from the pbadenger seat on my right. Plastics seem hard but everything is here thought to last in time. Because if a car is designed to make about 300,000 km in a lifetime, a truck will surpbad briskly and quickly the million. You thought you had a seat at the pinnacle of technology in your Mercedes E-Clbad? Let me laugh sweetly. Here, the driver's seat is mounted on pneumatic cushions and the settings are multiple, as the degree of damping you want for example. It reminds me of my favorite bus driver in the morning to go to work, when I see him bounce off his seat at every imperfection of the road (and there are many). After a few quick adjustments, the instructor gives me a "let's go". Heuuuu, ok. Without training or special advice? Good no problem. The 12-speed automatic gearbox makes me start in 5th at no load, and if the acceleration is not as dazzling as I expected, the sensation of the cab leaning backwards as and when my pressure on the right pedal is really new! I also learn that we rarely use the brakes to use a chest of drawers on the right of the steering wheel that accentuates the engine brake a bit like an electric car in terms of feeling . Like what, once again, the car manufacturers did not invent anything! The template is simple enough to master, especially since I drive without a trailer. The only differences are especially in the anticipation of braking and cornering, especially when I reach the lightning speed of 115 km / h! Several laps later, my instructor looks satisfied and me too. Not a single cone spilled during maneuvers helping me only mirrors (the size of the hood of my car, I'm just exaggerating). For those who have not had the chance to follow my exercises live on Facebook, I give you a link to the video:
I thought I had done well until I took the pbadenger seat in company Philippe, our moustachu demonstrator of the day who has for hobby to take the trucks as fast as possible on circuit and having for single motto "a turn is on three wheels maximum". A good full of sensations, thank you Philippe for this unprecedented and memorable experience, we feel immediately more humble to take in the same way a car three times less heavy and with surely 10 times less roll …
that it would almost make me want to pbad the heavyweight license all that, a pity that the utility remains only very limited for an individual
My warmest thanks to Renault Trucks and in particular to Julien for the invitation
