Where many manufacturers display for their terminals high-end specifics, but trim on such-and-such an aspect (here too much autonomy, there a narrow memory, or a lack of tightness …), Huawei places the sliders of his new Mate 20 Pro as high as it seems possible to do. The total !
Amoled WQHD + screen of 6.39 '' / 16.23 cm (3120 x 1440 pixels); expandable memory of 128 GB (6 GB of Ram); 4200 mAh battery; IP68 certification attesting to its resistance to water and dust; Kirim 980 processor … do not throw it away! Excuse me, if: for the photo and video, Huawei also aligns a particularly well studied sensor hitch *. 20 minutes was able to have a good time with the last toy of the second biggest seller of smartphones in the world …
The end of fingerprints!
The Mate 20 Pro is very nice to have in hand. Reminiscent of a silky pebble to the touch, the smartphone completely avoids the pitfall of fingerprints. With his impression sensor under the screen, we feared the worst. But no: not the slightest trace appears after a lot of unlocking.
The striated back coating on the blue version we tested is also hermetic to fingerprints. On the other hand, the rear sensor block surmounted by the Leica logo is frankly unsightly. We would have liked a better integration. Sometimes needing to recover the unlocking using the fingerprint reader located under the screen deserves a little more responsiveness. Facial recognition is faster.
A foolproof screen for entertainment
Once turned on, the Mate 20 Pro never showed any slowness during our test. The display is, let's face it, sumptuous. Moreover, it is now difficult to decide on this field Amoled screen smartphones, such as Note 9 Samsung, the
iPhone Xs Apple or the
XZ3 from Sony.
If the definition of the Mate 20 Pro is the largest (3120 x 1440 pixels), it must be selected in the settings, Huawei opting by default for a definition "intelligent" FHD + 2340 x 1080 pixels. Goal: save energy. On board a TGV, we really enjoyed several episodes of the new series Wanderlust from Netflix. Despite some glare, the screen of the Mate 20 Pro has proved an unstoppable ally in video. The combination of infinite contrasts, warm colors and perfect finesse makes it easy to switch from the comfort of a larger screen, like a tablet. No visible speakers, but there are two. And the sound without headphones is good, the dialogs clear.
Four photo sensors for the best
But it is in photo that the new Huawei widens the gap with its rivals. And it's once again the iconic Leica brand sticking to it. Certainly, the Chinese manufacturer and his German partner abandon the monochrome sensor appeared on the Huawei P9. And even though Huawei says it, the black and white photos taken with the Mate 20 Pro do not have quite the same emotional force as before.
For the rest, the trio of sensors on the back of the smartphone is suitable for all situations: strong light or difficult lighting conditions, wide or tight shots, Portrait mode (very convincing), 3x zoom lossless … Huawei even offers a Super Macro mode at 2.5 cm unpublished.
Macro, the perfect photo may not be obtained in one take, but the result, with an exceptional level of detail, is unparalleled.
For selfies, we find the usual smoothing of the skin so dear to the heart of Asian smartphone manufacturers, but it is not too pronounced here. Huawei pushes the luxury to propose some selfies effects with different backgrounds: pop, folding blinds …
The result is not always the happiest.
A hyper-fast recharge
Autonomy, finally. With a 4200 mAh battery, the Mate 20 Pro does better than all its competitors on paper. In fact, it is among the most enduring smartphones, with a dozen hours of battery life in use quite intensive. It can be compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 9. For example, with the brightness of the screen set at 50%, a 60 minute video stored internally consumes 13% of the battery power.
And good news: a SuperCharge quick charging system (40 watts) is provided. Half an hour on the sector is enough for the Mate 20 Pro to be satiated at 70% in energy!
