Snapchat and Amazon soon partners

Snapchat is developing a new feature that could be very profitable for it. According to information from TechCrunch, the flagship application of the younger generation would prepare a partnership with Amazon to offer directly to the purchase the products visible on the screen.

Specifically, Snapchat users can scan the products around them with a simple touch on their screen. At that time, a message will appear to offer to buy it directly on Amazon.

Snap already works on the same principle with the recognition of songs through a partnership with Shazam since December 2016.

The project with Amazon, entitled "Eagle", was not officially unveiled by Snapchat. In fact, the company founded by Evan Spiegel was "betrayed" by its source code. The latter was scrutinized by researcher Ishan Agarwal, who described his find at TechCrunch. In view of this code, Snapchat's intentions are beyond doubt.

Visual recognition in Pinterest and Google

As explained in the moderator's blog, this feature is not new in the tech world. Since June 2017, Pinterest, with its "Pinterest Lens", offers this type of visual recognition. In May 2017, Google announced the same kind of technology with its application Google Lens, integrated in version 8 of Android.

However, none of these applications has been so direct in its relationship with a trading partner, in this case Amazon.

Augmented reality in ambush

More broadly, a movement is being created around the technologies of visual recognition, allowed thanks to the artificial intelligence. The scan is close to augmented reality, which is booming among companies. Snapchat would have tried to buy Blippar, a company specializing in augmented reality communication, before falling due to lack of financial means.

Facebook is not left behind: the group announced on Tuesday the launch of advertisements in reality increased, but only in the United States, reports The Verge. As much for Facebook as for Snapchat, visual recognition could be a new way to boost revenue.
