Spotify would no longer be the leader in music streaming in the US

Apple Music and Spotify would both have 20 million users in the United States. But Apple's Streaming Service Could Have Better Growth

Spotify would have lost its number one spot in one of the biggest markets in the music industry. This is what advances the site Digital Music News in an article posted this week. The article quotes an anonymous source, a "major" distributor, who reportedly indicates that Apple Music is currently overtaking Spotify in the US market.

Both services could claim more than 20 million paid users except that Apple Music would have a slight lead. However, the growth of Apple Music in the US would be greater than that of its competitor Spotify. In February, the Wall Street Journal noted that Apple's streaming service would be 5% while that of Spotify would be 2%.

Despite this, Spotify remains a world leader

According to the latest official figures, the Swedish platform has 75 million paying users worldwide. And if there are also those who take advantage of the free offer financed with advertising (that Spotify encourages to switch to the paid subscription), there are 170 million users.

For its part, Apple Music claims 40 million users for its paid offer (no equivalent funded by advertising) in the world. This figure was given by CEO Tim Cook in April.

The progress of Apple Music is fast. But the Cupertino company is not the only threat to Spotify. Amazon and Google also offer streaming offers. And quite recently, after introducing its new YouTube Music subscription, the Mountain View company has deployed it to new countries, including France.

Currently, one of the disadvantages of Spotify is that it depends on mobile platforms from Apple and Google, which are also its competitors in streaming music. And according to some rumors, this disadvantage would encourage Spotify to get into physical products.
