Tesla said on Monday that the person responsible for the production of his latest electric car model was leaving the company, a departure that occurred after boss Elon Musk took him out of the job.

Doug Field's departure – Officially vice-president in charge of engineering – comes at a time when the group based in California (West) says it has finally reached its goal of producing 5,000 Model 3 a week.

The billionaire tweeted this weekend end: "7,000 cars, 7 days."

A few weeks ago, Doug Field had gone on sabbatical but, "After nearly five years at Tesla, Doug Field is turning the page," a spokesman for the group told AFP on Monday.

Tesla, who is trying by all means to become profitable this year despite the accumulated losses here, had made it clear that the job cuts would not have any impact on the production of Model 3.

In addition to his financial problems, Tesla is in conflict with a former employee, whom he accuses of stealing confidential documents by hacking the computer system. He claims to be a "whistleblower" and has leaked information to publicize problems, such as defective batteries, in Tesla's mega-battery plant, located in western Nevada.

In recent months, the group has seen a wave of executive departures, including that of the Autopilot driver badistance software at the end of April.
