"The electric car of the future is already here"

Cons. Supported by the public authorities, electric propulsion engines have become the rule for car manufacturers. But where are we really? State of the art with an industrialist

Interview

Are we at the end of the thermal engines?

It's hard to say … But many municipalities have shown their will to forbid access from their downtown to the thermal vehicles. The electric car must therefore reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of the air in the cities. For us, industrialists, it is a question of making this electric mobility accessible.

Nevertheless, Europe has just exceeded the 500 000 electric vehicles sold …

In our case, the level of adhesion is very high. In Europe, a Nissan Leaf is sold every twelve minutes. The supply of vehicles is still limited but the electric gait is accelerating.

What is still slowing down sales?

Autonomy has been a drag. But with time, we manage to lengthen it.

That is to say?

Today, the Nissan Leaf, it is 270 km of autonomy, and most of the French realize less 50 km a day. We do not need more autonomy. You have to differentiate between the real need of the customers and the perceived need. Hence partnerships with SNCF for our customers. This allows to consider different uses, to travel with his car by train, for example.

Remains the question of recharging …

We already offer a fast recharge, which allows to recharge 80% of the battery in 40 to 60 min. But we must also think about the link between the car and the electrical network.
