Microsoft has developed a controller for people with one or more disabilities. Even the packaging is adapted

A few months ago, Microsoft unveiled a very special controller. Resembling a DJ turntable, it was designed to allow people with disabilities to indulge in their pbadion for video games. The initiative, based on openness and inclusivity, was particularly applauded by those involved and the industry as a whole.

It must be said that Microsoft has thought of everything, and just look at the packaging to realize it. After all, what would it be like to imagine a controller for accessibility if the unpacking looked like a long way of the cross?

The packaging also accessible

If you have already bought a video game accessory (HDMI cable, joystick), you have sometimes come across packaging complex, asking the use of a pair of scissors or a cutter … even teeth, as Microsoft explains. The Redmond company wanted to avoid these problems, so the accessibility experience starts right out of the box. " The physical, visual or material markers and the structural elements are designed so that customers can proceed to a logical and easy unpacking ", explains Microsoft in a statement published on July 25 on its site

A demonstration video materializes the process:

  • The box of on-packing dedicated to the transport opens by a self-adhesive ribbon equipped with a loop;
  • The box of the joystick is also equipped with buckles that serve as a seal and can be peeled off in several directions;
  • Once the seal is removed, a gray strap appears. It makes it possible to lift the lid easily, without too much effort because of the very low center of gravity;
  • A new loop appears to pull the handle out of its box;
  • Under the handle is a small compartment for the cable. Again, a loop facilitates the operation.

In an interview with Polygon and published on July 25, 2018, Mark Weiser, in charge of packaging at Microsoft, summarized the experiment, " We wanted every step to be as simple as possible. But the product box looks like any Xbox box. We did not want to create something that is different from other experiences. We want it to be part of our ecosystem. And perhaps this type of packaging will be mbadively adopted for the other products of the American giant. Because, after all, we would all like to have boxes as beautiful, simple and practical.
