The State, condemned by the administrative justice to compensate the victims of storm Xynthia in 2010, will pay "as soon as possible" a total of 1.86 million euros in compensation for damages suffered, announced Monday the prefecture of Vendée. This amount corresponds to the sum of the sums fixed by the Administrative Court of Nantes, in thirty judgments in total rendered for four of them in February and for twenty-six on July 6.

The storm has killed 47 in February 2010. The court had been seized of compensatory remedies, from victims of the storm Xynthia or their relatives, to recognize in particular a death penalty. This violent storm had killed 47 people on the French coast, including 29 in the only Vendean seaside resort of La Faute-sur-Mer, during the night of 27 to 28 February 2010.

"Faultes were made". In its decisions, the administrative court found that "mistakes were made" and set the proportion of responsibilities up to 50% for the municipality of La Faute-sur-Mer, 35% for the State and 15 % for the badociation in charge of the maintenance and reinforcement of the dike, located near the houses, submerged during the storm. The state had already agreed in April to badume the total of some 180,000 euros, after the joint and several sentence to compensate the first four families of victims.

Some 26 judgments rendered last week. Following the twenty-six judgments delivered on Friday, and "in order to allow an immediate settlement of all these compensation, the State will pay as soon as possible to the lawyers of the victims an amount of 1.86 million euros (to increase default interest), corresponding to all the sums calculated by the court in compensation for victims ", indicates the prefecture of Vendée in a statement.
