What is the common point between the Volvo XC60, the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan? These three recreational vehicles have dared to flout the law of the market that states that, after his third year, a vehicle sees the curve of its sales reverse and go down. Driven by the explosion of demand as well as by the good image of their brand, the XC60, Q5 and Tiguan have never sold better than when pbading the witness to their replacements, after seven to eight years of busy career. Remarkable
The party will be less grandiose for the Audi Q3, which sees arriving with relief the time of the retirement. Over a year, sales in Europe slipped from 92,206 copies in 2016 to 76,280 copies last year (data: JATO). Of course, Renault and Peugeot would like to approach such a level of diffusion for their Koleos (9,263 copies) and 5008 (36,180 copies). Nevertheless the comparison with the rival Mercedes-Benz GLA is no less painful for the Audi Q3: younger than three years, the GLA managed to increase its circulation in 2017, with 72,589 sales against 67,285 in 2016. The trend is confirmed in the first five months of 2018, with 29,521 copies against 25,920 copies during the same period in 2017. Yet younger (2015), the BMW X1 already sees its sales decline: 49,671 copies since January 2018, against 53,827 copies on the same period, last year.
Hooked by the renewal of its range, Audi has aged his Q3
Still green, the Jaguar E-Pace (11,177 copies) and Volvo XC40 (117 copies ) will ramp up to end up delighting a substantial number of customers with the Audi Q3. Nor should we underestimate the allure of Japan's youngest, the Lexus UX whose Challenges will be driving at the very end of August.
In sum, it was more it's time for Audi to update its Q3. Unveiled in April 2011, during the Shanghai Motor Show, this technical cousin of the first Volkswagen Tiguan changes generation: it adopts the inevitable MQB platform, released a few months after its birth by the Audi A3 and the Volkswagen Golf. What increase the rigidity of its box (so the protection of pbadengers and their comfort) but also finally benefit from the same connected equipment and the same driving aids that other models hit the four rings.
C ' is also inside that the Audi Q3 evolves in the most visible way. Terribly dated by its pace as well as by its modest measurements, the central screen that retracted each time one cut the contact joined the liquid crystal display and the record player to the rank of antiques. The weather has not been smooth with the Q3 driving position, never modified in seven years of career, unlike the headlights and the grille.
Note that the Audi Q3 offer three types of headlights, the Matrix diode technology being reserved for the most up-to-date versions. The fans will know the difference at first glance!
A large touch pad for the Audi Q3
If the Audi Q3 is not entitled to the second touch screen force feedback of Audi A6, A7 and A8 to manage its air conditioning, it is nevertheless inspired by the drawing of their dashboard. We thus find an immense satin aluminum joint whose angular outline echoes that of the grille. At its center is a stunning 10-inch digital touchscreen, paired with the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit all-digital instrument nestled behind the wheel. It was time. Note however that it will be possible to save the cost of these windows and to be content with an 8.8-inch tablet at the entry level.
Once prominent, aerators are now trying to to confuse with the long wand that runs to the top of the dashboard. An Alcantara coating is offered to those who wish to brighten and personalize the interior of their Audi Q3.
30 cm longer than its little brother, the Audi Q2
The Q3 was the first to adopt (in 2015) a so-called "three-dimensional" grille design, since then generalized to the Audi Q7, Q2, Q5 and Q8, to better distinguish them from sedans. This expanded rostrum had been inspired by the Audi Crosslane style study presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. It is therefore no surprise that we find the last iteration of this octagonal grille on the new Audi Q3, framed by a pair of beveled projectors. The double jump of the line that surrounds the box above the wheel arches insensibly evokes the silhouette of the big brother Q5.
It's more than a rumor: the Audi Q3 second generation will be supported by a derivative called "coupe", an Audi Q4 that will sacrifice some of its livability on the altar of style, like a certain BMW X2. In the meantime, the Audi Q3 benefits from an extended wheelbase of 8 centimeters and a total length of 10 centimeters to give more space to pbadengers and their luggage. The distribution evolves according to the desires, by sliding the bench (on 15 centimeters). The volume of the trunk thus goes from a minimum of 530 liters to a maximum seat in place of 675 liters (against 463 liters on the outgoing Q3).
At 4.49 meters long, the new Audi Q3 is also long than the Volkswagen Tiguan second generation and exactly 30 centimeters longer than its little brother Audi Q2.
The new generation Q3 adopts the new Audi nomenclature, which reasons in terms of driving pleasure rather than unit displacement or total. The Audi Q3 35 TFSI thus benefits from a 4-cylinder petrol engine with 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque; the Q3 40 TFSI of a turbo 4-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and 320 Nm; and the Q3 45 TFSI of a turbocharged 4-cylinder of 230 horsepower and 350 Nm. On the Diesel side, we find the 4-cylinder of 150 horsepower and 340 Nm on the Audi Q3 35 TDI, while waiting for a Q3 40 TDI of 190
These engines are available in two- or four-wheel drive, with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed S tronic robotic clutch. The S Line version will automatically qualify for lowered suspension and variable pitch steering.
The new Audi Q3 will be badembled in Hungary at the Györ Audi plant. The first deliveries are expected in November 2018. Tariffs should be announced for the Paris Motor Show at the end of September.
