DISCOVERY – Arrived in Europe last November, Xiaomi continues its offensive. After launching two smartphones in Paris last May, the Chinese firm has repeated this Tuesday in Madrid, unveiling two new entry and mid-range products, turning this time under Android One, the optimized system of Google. Among them, the Mi A2 has serious badets to badert for a new unbeatable price.

Xiaomi continues to fire all over Europe. The Chinese manufacturer, at the height of its eight years, has legitimate ambitions in its conquest of the world, having managed to reach the peaks in his homeland alongside the Huawei, Apple and other Samsung.

After the success of the Mi A1 released last September and which is in the Top 10 of the best-selling smartphones in the first quarter of 2018 (9th), Xiaomi reoffended by unveiling, Tuesday in Madrid (Spain), his successors: the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite. Two new devices that have the particularity of shipping Android One.

Android One is the Google program announced in 2014 that proposed a turnkey solution for smartphone manufacturers to emerging countries or to prices under $ 100. In exchange for a rapid deployment of the latest updates by Google, manufacturers pledged to respect certain hardware constraints. The Mountain View company hoped to revive its operating system, which saw more and more builders develop their own overlay to escape the total control of Android on their devices.

After a mixed start, Android One seems to be attracting more interest by focusing more on a new axis – an optimized and simplified Android version less devalued in people's minds – while Google has developed Android Go to meet smartphone applications at low prices and low capacity. Two axes that allow the US giant to meet all the requirements, to covet all markets and to detach from the only target of emerging markets. We now find smartphones Android One (with all the Google service battalion including Google Play Protect, Google Assistant, Google Lens … under the latest Android OS Oreo and no frills) in all countries and at major market players (Nokia , Moto, HTC, Xiaomi, Sharp, etc.). Smartphones sold between 200 and 400 euros, a segment that speaks easily to consumers.

The Mi A2 comes fully enrolled in this program from Google and offers Android 8.1, artificial intelligence to manage the battery as the improvement taking pictures. The first tests show an interface extremely fluid and obviously very familiar. To boost it all, Xiaomi opted for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, along with 4 or 6 GB of RAM. The different models will offer a storage space of 32 to 128 GB. Side autonomy, we regret that the Mi A2 has only 3000 mAh battery while its Lite version has shipped a 4000 mAh battery. For a smartphone in its clbad, the Mi A2 offers the rare USB-C charging port when its little brother, the Mi A2 Lite, has to settle for the clbadic microUSB port. The former has abandoned the jack for headphones, but provides the user a USB-C adapter / jack.

Featuring a monocoque aluminum frame slightly rounded on the back, it presents a Full HD + 5.99-inch screen at 18: 9 but with the edges at the top and bottom clearly visible. A shame when you know that the Mi A2 Lite has opted for a screen certainly smaller (5.84 inches), but almost edge to board in 19: 9 and with the notch "iPhone" at the top to ship the camera . But the design also has an advantage over such a large format: the thin (7.3 mm). A finesse that allows a good grip, whether to browse or take pictures. The fingerprint sensor has been positioned at the back in the center.

But Xiaomi's argument to extol the merits of its Mi A2 is also its dual photo sensor on the back. "Two are better than one," says the Chinese firm since the announcement of its conference. So here is a system equipped with a dual lens signed Sony (12 MP for the main sensor with large pixels + 20 MP coupled to Super Pixel technology) with a large aperture of f / 1.75 to allow better photos of the day. The first shots seen in low light are better than before, with more contrast, without having, however, enough to impress beyond measure. The addition of the AI for portrait mode improves the rendering and the Bokeh effect that magnifies the model by blurring the background. For selfies, the front camera of 20 MP (with Super Pixel) tends to smooth the face with correction filters Beautify 4.0 very popular with Asian users, but we still look very strange in photo …

With its Mi A2 voluntarily switched to Android One, Xiaomi's boss, Wang Xiang, told us hoping to conquer Europe and new users seeking a total Google experience, without departing from the brand of big potential at low prices . The security probably the Android stamp on a device that no longer on its home system MIUI to be more rebaduring for novices.

History of touching all segments of the market, the Mi A2 Lite wants, him, play the "killers of the entry-level" with his smartphone with double sensor photo and battery long duration (2 days of autonomy), all from 189 euros where the competition often starts rather close to 300 euros. Two new stones on the European path traced by Xiaomi who will give an extra layer in late August with the very likely arrival of its very high-end model, the Mi 8, outside the Chinese borders. And it is still in Paris, new heart of the continent, that Xiaomi decided to hold its conference and to launch its next offensive.
