We've taken over the new and more powerful iPad Pro

PRESENTATION – He was expected, he is there. The new iPad Pro was unveiled by Apple on Tuesday, October 30 in New York. The touch pad arrives in a completely redesigned design, with power increased tenfold and always in two screen sizes. We have been able to approach this new iPad and its innovations, as well as the 2nd generation Apple Pencil which will multiply the possibilities. Novelties that have a cost also pulled up.

It's been almost a year and a half since Apple had not given a touch of youth to its iconic touch pad. Since the arrival of the iPad Pro 10.5 inches succeeding the model 9.7 inches and completing the range with the iPad Pro 12.9 inches, no refresh had occurred. Tuesday October 30 in New York, during a keynote held at the Academy of Music in Brooklyn, Apple has put an end to the waiting out of his wallet two new iPad Pro redesigned from A to Z.

We take the same and redesign everything. The iPad now sports a more square chbadis on the slices that still holds well in hand even if it surprises slightly when you are used to rounded edges. But the big news comes from the screen clearly refined and now occupying almost the entire surface, due to the disappearance of the physical button Home. Suddenly, the old chbadis boarding the 10.5-inch screen becomes a model with 11-inch screen. The large iPad Pro XL keeps its screen of 12.9 inches but sees its overall size decreased by 25% thanks to the space gained. Both models now feature Liquid Retina display technology like the iPhone XR, which increases their brightness and improves color rendering while the resolution remains the same (264 ppi).

To overcome the absence of the unlock button, hello FaceID! The iPad Pro now ships the same TrueDepth camera (7 MP) for facial recognition that unlocks the device, validates payments or applications in the App Store. The good find is the ability to unlock the iPad in any position, even camera down. Note that it is now possible to use Animoji and Memoji with the iPad, even for FaceTime conversations. At the back, the 12 MP camera is a little prominent. It will be necessary to see if it has made progress. The four speakers are still there for stereo sound.

The Smart Connector which allowed to connect a keyboard or compatible bases switches back to where one also finds the camera of 12 MP. On the edge, it is replaced by a Magnetic Connector which is used for the 2nd generation Apple Pencil (135 € optional – see below). The set is thinner (5.9 mm thick against 6.1 mm for the previous iPad Pro) and lighter (468 g against 477 g for the 11-inch model).

Apple praises the merits of these new iPad Pro that must compete cheerfully with the most powerful PCs. For this, the brand has equipped its tablets with the A12X Bionic chip engraved in 7 nm, inspired by the iPhone XS and XR. Billions of calculations per second for more power, fluidity and speed in processing. This is particularly evident in the augmented reality supported by the iPad even more easily. We were also blown away by the NBA 2K19 basketball simulation game, very resource-intensive on PS4 or Xbox One, which turned perfectly on the iPad in a very probably lightened but equally realistic version. Apple boasts of having the same graphics power on its tablet as the Xbox One S (but not yet the Xbox One X).

The headphone jack disappears just like the Lightning jack replaced by a USB-C port. And we must understand that the iPad will have a very large battery because via the USB-C, it will even be possible to recharge its iPhone. And maybe other devices, who knows?

The iPad Pro comes in two colors (sidereal gray or silver). It will be available in storage from 64 GB to 1 TB from November 7 (open pre-orders).

A 2nd generation Apple Pencil smarter

The connected pen is always practical for writing or drawing. It has also been relooked and now looks like a white plastic pencil. But he is smarter than his predecessor. Firstly because there is no longer need to connect to the Lightning port to recharge (port that no longer exists …). One of its sides is flat. This allows you to pair and reload it simply via the Magnetic Connector. A good way also to not lose it. By tapping the screen with, you can access the Notes application directly. A double click on the side of the Apple Pencil allows to switch to other features (here to go to the eraser or back to the virtual pen). The developers are also invited to find him occupations in their applications. Photoshop, now supported by the iPad and quick to perform miracles even in augmented reality, uses double pressure to zoom in or out. Note that it is not compatible with other iPads and that the old Apple Pencil does not work with the new iPad Pro.
