The final of the 2018 World Cup has generated 32 million euros of bets Sunday, a record for the French Games (FDJ) on a sports match, announced Monday the game operator.

Some 80% of the bets were placed on the winner, France, and thus returned 52 million euros of winnings to punters, again a record.

Before the match, France's odds were 2 to 1 while Croatia's outsider was 4.8 to 1.

The good performance of the French team in major competitions gives a boost to the bets since the previous records for the FDJ had been established during the semi-final France-Belgium (18.6 million euros). euros) and the final of Euro 2016 France-Portugal (18 million euros).

The group phase had generated 363 million euros in bets, including 39 million in the three matches of the Blues.

At the beginning of the competition, France was among the main favorites of most bookmakers, just behind Germany, Brazil and Spain.
