Xbox One goes to Dolby Vision – Tech

Good news for the owners of an Xbox One and a state-of-the-art UHD TV: the console will follow the Dolby Vision format, an alternative to the HDR10.

In the war of HDR formats that the tech giants are currently doing, Microsoft has decided not to choose for its Xbox One. So to propose both HDR10 (static metadata) and Dolby Vision (dynamic metadata). The good news has been officialized by the Redmond company from the official website this July 11, 2018, where she talks about the upcoming arrival of the 1810 firmware from the console already offering Dolby Atmos (for sound).

As always with this kind of updates, those who will benefit first are the registered users of the Insider program. The availability for everyone is not yet known

Dolby Vision first streaming

In its press release, Microsoft said that Dolby Vision, a process that sublimates the image by improving contrasts and bright peaks by adapting to what is displayed, will be proposed on Xbox One S and Xbox One X for streaming content (so on Netflix with the subscription that goes well). No one knows if the UHD Blu-ray player built into the console will ever be affected.

As a reminder, you can enjoy Dolby Vision – a proprietary format – if and only if all your devices are compatible. For example, the TVs Samsung and Panasonic, whose builders support the HDR10 +, are not.
