Francisco Lindor’s trade rumors: Mets, Yankees among the candidates

Five MLB teams have reportedly emerged as strong contenders for the Francisco Lindor acquisition as the Cleveland Indians look to trade the All-Star shortstop this offseason.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals are the “best candidates” to get Lindor from the Indians. Lindor, 26, has one year left on his contract worth around $ 21 million in salary arbitration.

It has been reported by multiple outlets that Indians will likely trade Lindor before the 2021 season to clear salary space, although a deal does not appear to be reached so early in the offseason, according to Morosi. Not all interested teams would be ready to have “serious” trade negotiations with the Indians, including the Mets who are in transition under new owner Steve Cohen.
