Axed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed his frustration with losing his job and admitted he wanted more time this season in his first public statement since his dismissal by the club.

Blues legend Lampard reacted to his abrupt sacking on Monday night, telling fans he hoped he would be allowed to try and improve Chelsea’s fortunes this season.

Responding through the League Managers Association, Lampard said: “ It has been a privilege and an honor to manage Chelsea, a club that has been a part of my life for so long.

“First of all, I would like to thank the fans for the incredible support I have received over the past 18 months. Hope they know what this means to me.

“When I took on this role, I understood the challenges that awaited me in a difficult time for club football.

“ I’m proud of the accomplishments we’ve made and I’m proud of the academy players who came into the first team and performed so well. They are the future of the club.

“I am disappointed that I did not have time this season to take the club forward and take it to the next level.

Lampard had been under pressure after a terrible five-game losing streak in eight Premier League games, although his abrupt departure earlier today was still a shock to many fans.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich took the unprecedented decision to explain the ruthless move as part of the club’s announcement, calling it a ‘very difficult decision’.
