49ers linebacker Fred Warner spent 10 days on the COVID-19 reserve list last summer. He played the first game of the season after not training in the week leading up to the game.
Warner revealed on Thursday that he received the vaccine during the offseason.
While Warner has said he won’t pressure any unvaccinated teammate to get the shot, the All-Pro is ready to answer questions about it.
“At the end of the day, everyone makes their own decision, and that’s something you have to respect,” Warner said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “I’m vaccinated and I know I’m a person the guys can come to and ask about this. What are their concerns, and stuff like that. It’s all I’m trying to be, it’s just a tool people can use, a resource. If anyone has a question they want to ask me, I’m more than ready to answer it.
The league told its 32 clubs on Thursday that it would not reschedule games in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated players. He imposed financial penalties on any forfeits resulting from a peak in COVID-19 among the unvaccinated, including players from both teams losing game checks that week.
Teams with 85% of their players vaccinated will have a competitive advantage, and Warner praised the 49ers’ efforts to educate players about the vaccine.
“Well, the vaccination conversation continued for most of the offseason, even before this news was released,” Warner said. “The team, I think, did a great job educating the players about the vaccine to try and help the guys get comfortable with it.”
