Free PS Plus Games For January 2021 Live Tomorrow

The first batch of PlayStation Plus free giveaways for 2021 will go live tomorrow, January 5th. Again, you can claim three free games including a PS5 title. This month, subscribers can grab Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Greedfall on PS4 as well as the Maneater Shark Simulator, which will be free exclusively on PS5.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the latest installment in the rebooted Tomb Raider series, bringing Lara Croft’s on-going adventure to the jungles of South America to save the world from a Mayan apocalypse. As the classic AAA adventure game you’d expect, GameSpot’s Shadow review praised the exploration and challenge of solving ancient tomb puzzles, but cautioned that the game’s traditional mechanics can make the trip frustrating.

Greedfall is a 2019 RPG that tasks players with exploring a mysterious island called Teer Fradee, filled with magical secrets to explore and monsters to hunt. The game is aimed at traditional RPG fans with character builds comprising different abilities, spells, skills, and objectives that can be completed in multiple ways. GameSpot’s review of the game compared its compelling exploration and combat mechanics favorably to Witcher 3, though criticized its addiction to colonialist themes.

Maneater is this month’s PS5 exclusive game – although it is also available on PS4, only PS5 players will be able to use it for free. Maneater is described as a ShaRkPG, an RPG in which you play as a man-eating shark. Starting off as a small puppy, the player is tasked with first surviving and then thriving as one of the ocean’s top predators. Much like RPGs with human characters, you’ll be able to tailor your shark’s skills to your playstyle as they grow in size and strength.

As with previous PlayStation Plus giveaways, all January games are PS4 titles that are also playable on PS5. The recently launched next-gen console can play most PS4 games, with improvements that vary from game to game, including reduced load times, more stable frame rates, and increased resolutions. Only a small handful of PS4 games are not supported on PS5 and the list has already started to decline.

The developer of Greedfall has announced that the game will get an update and additional content for the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, although it is not yet clear if this will be an update. free for all new generation players.

The free December games – Just Cause 4, Rocket Arena, Worms Rumble, and Bugsnax (for PS5) – are still available until January 4.
