Free Starbucks Coffee: Health workers and first responders can get a free cup of coffee in December

First responders and healthcare workers can take a free starbucks coffee cup for the entire month of December, the coffee chain announced on Tuesday. The company said the benefit was “in response to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and to recognize the important efforts of the frontline worker and the health care community.”

From Tuesday to New Year’s Eve, anyone who identifies as a frontline worker Coronavirus pandemic will be served a large brewed iced or hot coffee at no cost, the company said on its COVID-19 response page.

The company said those who are eligible for a cup of coffee are doctors, pharmacists, firefighters, mental health workers, and more. Hospital personnel, such as security or housekeeping personnel, and active duty military personnel are also included.

There is no limit to the offer, the company told CBS News. Those who qualify can claim the deal as many times as they want until the end of 2020.

“It has been an extremely difficult year, especially for frontline workers who serve our communities,” said Virginia Tenpenny, Starbucks vice president of global social impact. “We want to show our deep gratitude to those who support and protect us every day with a little gesture of kindness and a cup of coffee.”

The offer can be redeemed at company-run establishments in the United States and at certain licensed stores, according to the Starbucks website.

Additionally, Starbucks said it has donated $ 100,000 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness “to support virtual mental health resources for frontline workers.” He also said he plans to surprise 50,000 frontline workers with gift cards and care packages during the holiday season.

This is the second time Starbucks has offered free coffee to these fight the pandemic. The company announced a similar deal for frontline responders in late March, with the offer ending May 3.

The company said it had given more than 2 million free cups of coffee to frontline responders since the start of the pandemic, among other contributions.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus is across the United States again, with more than 4 million cases reported in November only, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Hospitals across the country are treating more than 96,000 coronavirus patients, a new record, according to the COVID Tracking Project.
