French series ‘Lupine’ draws Netflix audiences larger than ‘Bridgerton’

Not two weeks after his Netflix first (which means “premiere” in French), the mysterious detective drama Lupine is on track to reach more homes than recent tariffs such as Bridgerton and The queen’s gambit.

Created by George Kay and François Uzan and based on a character created by Maurice Leblanc, the French series is expected to be sampled by more than 70 million households * in its first four weeks of release.

For comparison, only The witcher has reached more households, with 76 million according to Netflix. Immediately at the end Lupine, meanwhile, are Money heist (65 million), King tiger (64 million), Bridgerton (63 million) and The queen’s gambit (62 million).

Lupine is also ranked # 1 in Netflix’s Top 10 Consumers in dozens of countries including Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines and Sweden. Its metacritic index is 85, while its Rotten Tomatoes freshness certification is 93.

The premise for Lupine, who only released the first half of his 10-episode season, is therefore (aka “voila!”): Adolescent, Assane Diop’s life was turned upside down when her father died after being accused of a crime he did not commit. Twenty-five years later, Assane (played by Omar Sy) will use “Arsène Lupine, Gentleman Burglar” as a source of inspiration to avenge his father.
