Will Smith always keeps it fresh – and a little fiery.

The 52-year-old star of NBC sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” officially announced on Friday that a much-anticipated cast reunion will air November 19 on HBO Max – and it will indeed include a shocking session with the actor Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Viv for the first three seasons.

“I couldn’t celebrate 30 years of ‘Fresh Prince’ without Janet,” Smith said in a voiceover as the cast members stumbled upon the otherwise sentimental two-minute trailer he shared on Friday morning. on social networks.

The reunion will mark the 30th anniversary of the series, which premiered in 1990 and spanned six seasons and 148 episodes.

“These are the people who made me the man I am today,” Smith wrote in an accompanying caption on Instagram. “And I couldn’t let this day go by without marking the occasion.”

The reunion special, which was taped in September, is billed as “a fun and warm evening full of music, dancing and a look at the cultural impact of the series” in the official synopsis.

The reunited Banks family will include cast members Tatyana Ali (who played Ashley), Karyn Parsons (Hilary), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Maxwell Reid (who replaced Hubert as Aunt Viv), Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton) and DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jazz).

The continued affection of the ensemble is palpable in the teaser video.

“Our show meant black excellence to people,” says Ali. “Excellence was how we loved each other.”

The cast members also said the tapes themselves were “kind of like a Friday night party” and “the most popular ticket in town.”

However, it turns out that early on, then-novice rapper and actor Smith was unsure of his own abilities.

“No one ever asked me if I could perform,” famed artist Smith says in the clip, leading to a quick and witty retort from Ribeiro: “And you couldn’t.”

There are also heartwarming moments, including tributes to late actor James Avery – “The Heart of the Show,” in the words of Ali – who played Uncle Phil, wrapped in Will in a hug. bear in a touching scene from Season 4.

Smith also surprised many fans (and apparently the cast) by including Hubert – who left the show in 1993 and was replaced by Reid – in the reunion. Smith and Hubert reportedly did not sit down and spoke for 27 years amid an alleged ongoing feud between the two.

The reunion isn’t the only “Fresh Prince” revival in the works: Smith has reportedly signed on for executive production on a spectacular reboot of the show, which is being streamed to streaming networks.
