Six golf fans need treatment after the lightning that hit Saturday night's PGA Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Thunderstorms fell on the area surrounding East Lake Golf Club in the afternoon, which suspended the game around 4:15 pm local time.

About half an hour later, lighting hit twice near the 15th green, hitting a tree and sending debris to a nearby crowd that was sheltering.

Paramedics treated six people, and five of them were transported to the hospital. A statement from the PGA Tour said their injuries "Does not seem to be life threatening."

Images showed that lightning was striking the tree and causing a big flash.

Mark Russell, Vice President of Rules and Competition for the PGA Tour, said: "When we suspend the game, we encourage everyone to leave and to go to the shelter wherever he can.

"We have opened well-established hospitality areas, many other places of the same kind. You have a lot of people and you have to do it quickly.

The match was to resume Sunday with American golfer Justin Thomas leading a shot by Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka.
