From Axl’s new time-consuming Super to Nagoriyuki’s double-edged blood mechanic, 4 takeaways from Guilty Gear Strive’s latest showcase

A whole slew of new Guilty Gear Strive footage was released yesterday as GameSpot released nine minutes of playtime featuring Ky, Sol, Axl, Zato-1 and newcomer Nagoriyuki.

We’ve certainly noticed Ky Kiske’s new dragon setup technique, but Rooflemonger details this and three other showcase takeaways, one of which is an update to how the all-new and vampiric Measuring Mechanic works. Nagoriyuki blood.

The Cyber ​​Vampire certainly has a ton of intrigue going on for him as he’s one of Strive’s roster additions to the Guilty Gear franchise, and he has a unique mechanic that serves as a kind of double-edged sword: his blood gauge. This gauge fills up during combat and grants the character turbo-charged abilities, but also constantly drains their life if they fill up.

Rooflemonger points out a pretty big update to this mechanic from what little we’ve seen before, including the fact that the gauge gradually fills up as opposed to instant chunks. There’s a bit more about this fighter as he was used in the showcase, such as the potential properties of his berserk mode activation sequence, but we’ll let the content creator go into details.

Another major point of interest in the footage is the showcase of Axl Low Super’s new downtime. The returning Guilty Gear character now has the option to Freeze opponents in order to prepare for a hard-hitting combo of their choice.

We only have visuals from our analysis here, of course, but it looks like this Super needs to be stored first before it can be implemented. Axl stores the technique and collects a purple glow around him to indicate that it is now in play (not at all unlike Mr. Bison’s V-Skill 2 in Street Fighter 5), but activates it and apparently freezes his foe anywhere on the screen.

During filming, the maneuver is used while opponents are in a state of stunned from previous attacks, leading us to assume that Axl won’t be able to simply activate it at all times and make it work. Enemies can block the freeze very well if not caught in the middle of a combo or in some sort of extended start or pick up animation from one of their own attacks.
