FromSoftware Releases New Statement on Elden Ring Development

After being silent on the game for most of the year, developer FromSoftware is releasing a statement on their upcoming title Elden Ring.

One of the biggest announcements of E3 2019 was the reveal of Elden ring, a new game from renowned developer FromSoftware that was created in collaboration with The iron Throne designer George RR Martin. Virtually nothing has been revealed about Elden ring since its first trailer, and many fans have been impatient. However, FromSoftware finally broke the silence with a social media post thanking fans and possibly teasing news for 2021.

FromSoftware’s Marketing and Communications Manager Yasuhiro Kitao recently released a statement on Twitter thanking fans for supporting the studio and Elden ring. Specifically, Kitao thanked those who helped Elden ring winning the most anticipated game award at the Game Awards 2020. This made the FromSoftware team “very motivated” and Kitao said the studio could “move forward with development without getting discouraged.”

In a follow-up tweet, Kitao hinted at the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, rumors claimed that Elden ring has been delayed due to COVID-19, but nothing official about it has been released. Either way, Kita ended the post by stating “See you in 2021,” leading fans to speculate that more Elden ring the news can finally arrive at some point in the new year.

This is one of the only statements from FromSoftware about Elden ring all year. The silence of FromSoftware on Elden ring led to rumors that the action-RPG had been canceled, but the studio released a statement rebuffing those claims, confirming that it is still in active development as the next title. Other than that, however, the studio has been pretty quiet about the game and its progress.

While FromSoftware hasn’t been much for Elden ring news or updates lately, Xbox director Phil Spencer gave a preview of the title. In fact, Spencer claims to have played Elden ring, and went so far as to describe the game as Hidetaka Miyazaki’s most ambitious title to date. Considering Miyazaki’s impressive library of work, this is a pretty bold statement, and it will certainly be interesting to see if the game lives up to the hype.

Spencer’s comments indicate that Elden ring is playable, so all indications are that development is going smoothly. A recent rumor has gone so far as to state that Elden ring has completed development and has gameplay similar to Dark souls series, but this has not yet been proven. For now, fans should be keeping their fingers crossed that a new Elden ring the trailer drops at some point in 2021.

Elden ring is in development for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
