Frontier Airlines now says it is “supporting” its crew who restrained an unruly passenger with duct tape after groping two flight attendants’ chests and punching a flight attendant in the face.
“Frontier Airlines maintains the highest value, respect, concern and support for all of our flight attendants, including those who have been assaulted on this flight,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.
“We support the needs of these team members and work with law enforcement to fully support the prosecution of the passenger involved,” the company added. “The current status of paid flight crew leave is consistent with an event of this nature awaiting investigation. “
The statement comes after the company backlash face for initially saying that the crew would be “Withdrawn from the flight pending the end of the investigation of the events”.
“Management suspended the crew as a knee-jerk reaction to a short video clip that did not show the entire incident. Management should be supporting the crew at this time without suspending them. We will fight this with all the contractual and legal tools available, but we hope it will not be necessary, as management comes to its senses and supports the people on the front lines responsible for ensuring the safety of all passengers ”, Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, said in a declaration Tuesday.
The incident happened on July 31 while on a flight from Philadelphia to Miami.
Maxwell Berry drank two alcoholic drinks before assaulting flight attendants and screaming on the plane, the police report said.
Berry was then taped to a seat on the plane and arrested when the flight landed. He was charged with three counts of battery.
