LOS ANGELES – LeBron James left the Lakers ‘game against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday in the first half after Solomon Hill collided with James’ right ankle.
James, 36, knocked over a chair in frustration as he made his way to the locker room.
Hill was called up for a foul with 10:50 left in the second quarter when the Hawks forward fell on James’ right ankle as he attempted to steal the ball.
James immediately screamed in pain and rolled off the field, gripping his right leg. The Lakers called the time-out to check on the 18-year-old veteran, with several teammates, coaches and medics crossing the court to surround James while he was on the ground.
James was able to stand on his own and limped back to the bench where he replaced his sneakers and stayed in the game after the time out.
In the Lakers’ first possession out of the timeout, James hit a 3 from the corner, taking his stat line to 10 points on a 3 for 6 shot, keeping his streak intact of 1,036 consecutive games – including Saturday – scoring 10 points or more.
LA called another time out soon after and James left the game for good with 10:04 left in the second quarter, with the Lakers behind 34-30.
Shortly after, the team announced that he would not be returning.
The Lakers will play next Sunday in the road back-to-back return game against the Phoenix Suns.
On Saturday, James averaged 25.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.0 assists and has appeared in every game except one for the Lakers this season, keeping his name at the top of the MVP conversation.
