FTC to review privacy policies of major Internet providers

Managers are interested in the type of personal information collected by ISPs, as well as how they do it and why. Regulators also want to know who has access to the data, if they are anonymized and if they are transparent. The FTC would also like to know if customers have control of their data, including options to opt out of data collection or to delete data held by the access provider.

This will not necessarily lead to a crackdown on the companies involved. This could however guarantee that they are flying right. And since telecoms sometimes played fast with customer privacy, it would not be completely shocking for the FTC to tell them to change their practices and prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands.
