A new adaptation of dune arrives in theaters in 2020, and some video games will follow, says Funcom.
Manufacturers of Conan Exiles and the MMOs Age of Conan and Secret World announced yesterday their partnership with Legendary Entertainment, the production company originally from 2020 duneand Herbert Properties to create video games, in the plural.
Nothing more specific has been proposed, such as platforms, the number of games or their launch dates. Rui Casais, CEO of Funcom, praised the company's ten years of experience in adapting the intellectual property of science fiction and fantasy. "We are excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with legendary to bring Dune's iconic universe to life for players around the world," he said.
The film 2020 is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), and his cast includes Timothy Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.
It is inspired by Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction book. David Lynch directed a 1984 adaptation that was a critical and commercial flop, but still retains some cult appeal.
