Former US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii has warned that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, is essentially playing with fire with her recent “the enemy is within” remarks.
Pelosi told reporters that she believes Congress will need to provide money “for more security for members, when the enemy is in the House of Representatives, a threat that members are concerned about.”
The comments were a reaction to the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill and the security measures that followed to protect lawmakers.
When asked to clarify what she meant, Pelosi said, “It means we have members of Congress who want to bring weapons to the ground and have threatened to rape other members of Congress.”

During a Friday night appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle”, Gabbard – a Democrat who decided not to be re-elected to the House when she ran for President in 2020 – said that it was “incredibly dangerous” for Pelosi to speak as though the country is “on the edge” and divided.
“This kind of broad, inflammatory rhetoric is like throwing a match in the powder keg,” she said.
“What President Pelosi is talking about is a very serious matter. If there is any evidence to support what she is saying … it is true, it is a legal question for the forces of the order.”
Gabbard said while in the House, one person repeatedly threatened her life and law enforcement summarily charged and sentenced the suspect.

“What Nancy Pelosi is talking about is a terrorist threat crime – and if that is true it needs to be reported to law enforcement. Members of Congress are not above the law,” she said. .
Host Laura Ingraham asked Gabbard if Pelosi was intentionally inciting.
“If you think there is someone in the Republican caucus who is plotting the murder of Nancy Pelosi or other members of Congress, then it could cause violence against those individuals,” she said.
“That’s the problem here. If it’s a [criminal threat], let law enforcement take care of it, “Gabbard replied.” If there is no proof of what she is talking about, it incites more division and potential harm and further destroys the possibility of ‘a rapprochement of our country.
