North Port Police took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to announce that the search for Gabby Petito’s boyfriend in the wetlands near her family’s home would continue. Authorities have confirmed that the body found in the Teton-Bridger National Forest belonged to Petito.
The North Port Police Department focused on the Carlton Reservation in Sarasota County during their search for Brian Laundrie, who has been named as a person of interest in Gabby Petito’s disappearance. Police said Tuesday’s search was unsuccessful, but that “the current plan is to come back on Wednesday with a similar operation.”
Police have used drones and K-9s to search for laundry, but the terrain is difficult and is about 75% underwater.
North Port Police are joined by several agencies, including the FBI and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Governor Ron DeSantis said the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission helped with the research. “I have called on all state agencies under my jurisdiction to continue to help federal and local law enforcement agencies as they continue their research – we need justice for Gabby Petito,” he said. he tweeted.
The FBI confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the remains of investigators found in the Teton-Bridger National Forest on Sunday belonged to missing 22-year-old woman Gabby Petito. “Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue has confirmed that the remains are those of Gabrielle Venora Petito, born March 19, 1999.
Coroner Blue’s initial determination as to the mode of death is homicide. Cause of death remains pending final autopsy results, “the FBI tweeted Tuesday with a statement from the coroner in Jackson, Wyoming. Brian Laundrie, Petito’s fiancĂ©, has reportedly been missing since September 14 after his parents testified a report on missing persons September 17.
The couple have also largely remained silent after the missing persons report for Petito, avoiding questions whenever they make a cameo outside their home. Laundries said they recovered Brian Laundrie’s Ford Mustang on Tuesday from the nature reserve where the search was taking place, although they did not report it until police arrived at their home on Friday.
