Gabrielle Union remembers Dwyane Wade had a baby with another woman

Gabrielle Union remained “devastated” and “shattered to pieces” after Dwyane Wade confessed he conceived a baby with another woman.

The former “Being Mary Jane” star recalls the life-changing moment in her new memoir, “You Got Anything Stronger”, saying she and the NBA star were “in the wrong place” when the baby was conceived but were at a “much better” when she learned the truth.

“To say I was devastated is to pick a word off a low shelf for convenience. There are people – strangers I will never meet – who have been upset that I haven’t yet spoken about this trauma, ”Union writes.

“I haven’t had any words, and even after countless amounts of therapy I’m not sure I have them now. But the truth matters.

The “Bring It On” star started dating Wade in 2008, and he fathered his now 7-year-old son Xavier in 2013, while he and Union were on hiatus.

The retired Miami Heat player was also the father of Zaire, 19, and Zaya, 14, as well as the guardian of his nephew, Dahveon, 19. Eventually, Wade and Union married in 2014 and attempted to have children of their own, which proved to be a challenge when Union suffered multiple miscarriages.

“’You’ve done enough,’ he said. I watched D with instant, white-hot rage. Astonishment, really. I was arguing with my husband what was best for my body? Did he really think surrogacy and a baby was our chance to turn things around? To rebalance? Union, 48, remembers in her memoirs.

“I said coldly, ‘Are you going to be the voice of reason now? Truly? Truly? Is that what we’re doing today? ‘ He looked me in the eye. “As much as we want this baby, I want you,” he said slowly. “We have lost too much in our relationship for me to agree to encourage you to do one more thing for your body and soul.”

The “Moisha” star admits she felt Wade, 39’s words, were “acknowledgment of failure”, even though they were meant to “worry.”

“Because at that point, I would have sold my soul for a victory. To get out of the endless cycle of loss. What was the going rate for souls? What was mine worth, anyway? she writes.

“Dwyane’s experience having a baby so easily when I couldn’t leave my soul not only shattered to pieces, but shattered into a fine dust scattered in the wind,” she explains. “With desperate hands, we gathered what we could to slowly transform myself into something new.”

Eventually, the couple welcomed their daughter Kaavia through a surrogate mother in 2018. They also celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary last month.
