If you are a gamer or just visiting The Cheapskate occasionally you already know that Epic games gives away a free game every Thursday. Every week is a new treat, with the past weeks handing out gems like GTA 5, Borderlands 2, Hitman, Watch Dogs 2 and more. Last week’s giveaway was Star Wars: Battlefront 2. If you missed that, don’t make the same mistake two weeks in a row: for now, you can hang Galactic Civilizations 3 for free.

Galactic Civilizations 3 may not have the visceral appeal of Battlefront 2, but it is a favorite among fans and critics alike. The 4X game (explore, expand, mine and exterminate) is inspired by classic turn-based strategy games like Sid Meier’s Civilization series, but defines the game as an entire expansive galaxy rather than a meager planet.

You can play solo or engage in conquests with up to 128 players. You can explore, set up worlds, defeat space armadas, and ultimately conquer all known space. Our friends at GameSpot called the game “awesome” and concluded that “Galactic Civilizations focuses exactly where they want it – on great fundamentals. The progressive pace makes the enormity of the space accessible and paradoxically personal, while the number and variety of tools and options available to you allow you to succeed and win if you can outdo everyone else. “

If you’re new to Epic’s Weekly Giveaway, here’s how it works: If you don’t already have one, sign up for your free Epic account. So get your free game – yours forever. You don’t even need to install it right away if you don’t want to.
