Galaxy Z Fold 3 will support S Pen Pro, according to FCC documents

After much teasing, it looks like a foldable Samsung is finally going to support an S Pen stylus. FCC filings for the S Pen Pro, a larger version of the S Pen with Bluetooth connectivity that Samsung announced in January, have been made public, and a document (PDF) reveals that the next stylus will work with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 unannounced (which is likely the next device in the Z Fold line).

And it’s not just the Z Fold 3 – the stylus, which has no release date but is slated for release this year, will apparently support the S21 Ultra, the Note 20 line, and more. You can see the full list of devices the S Pen Pro will support in this image from the repository:

S Pen Pro support for the Z Fold 3 comes as no major surprise – the company has been hinting at some sort of S Pen support for the foldable for some time. At last year’s Unpacked event, Samsung’s mobile president TM Roh said in a Q&A that the company was “happy to hear” that people wanted the S Pen to work with the Fold. In a December blog, he said the company is looking to bring some of the Galaxy Note’s “best-loved features” to other devices, which appears to be a nod to stylus support, l one of the characteristics of the Note line. And in January, Roh was even more explicit, saying the company plans to “expand the S Pen experience to other categories of devices in the future.”

A detailed leak has already shown the unannounced phone with a stylus: A render shared by famed leaker Evan Blass describes what appears to be the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with a new “Fold Edition” S Pen sitting next to it. Perhaps the Z Fold 3 will come with the Fold Edition stylus in the box while the S Pen Pro will be sold separately.

FCC documents that become public may indicate that a product may be advertised shortly after its release. In this case, an official announcement for the S Pen in the near future would make sense, as Samsung has hosted Unpacked summer events in early August for the past few years. Blass has also previously said that this year’s event is slated for August 11, in addition to revealing a bunch of other devices expected to be revealed at the show including the Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, two new ones. Galaxy watches and a new Galaxy Buds.

Thanks for the advice, Venkatesh!
