Catherine Powell, president of Disney Parks Western Region, is leaving the company after more than a decade.
Powell has overseen Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris, but his position is being eliminated, Bloomberg said Monday. Station managers will now report to Bob Chapek, president of Disney's Parks, Experiences and Products Division.
Powell, who had been with the company for 15 years, oversaw the opening of two Star Wars attractions this year.
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opened at Disneyland in Anaheim on May 29th. A second attraction opened at Disney Studios Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida in August.
As reported by Deadline in August, attendance at Disney's National Theme Parks decreased by 3% in the quarter. Management has blamed the decline on visitors who were eagerly awaiting the Galaxy's Edge. The company also "managed the demand during the first few weeks to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction," said CFO Christine McCarthy.
Disney's third-quarter results announced in August were below analysts' estimates on Wall Street. Earnings per share were $ 1.35, which is lower than the forecast of $ 1.74. Total revenue of $ 20.2 billion was below consensus estimates of $ 21.4 billion. The company blamed the ongoing integration of 21st Century Fox's assets, acquired under a $ 71.3 billion deal entered into in March.
