Game Day Skull Session: Get Dumped Then, Rutgers

[ad_1]

Rutgers aren’t the worst team in the Big Ten.

It’s probably as close to a compliment as Rutgers will ever get from me.

I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that this Scarlet Knights team is the same brand of badass that Rutgers typically serves every football season, but I’m not going to tell you either that it’s particularly * good * no. more.

It’s probably the best Rutgers team Ohio State has ever faced, but god damn it, that bar is so low. The Buckeyes have a perfect 7-0 record against the Scarlet Knights and have never scored less than 49 points in these competitions, winning an average of around 50-10 in games that are generally out of control at halftime.

So, while it’s probably true that this is the best and most dangerous Rutgers team to ever play in Ohio State, it’s kind of like bragging about Bart’s best report card rating. Simpson.

Rutgers' best season

But I concede – three years ago I called Rutgers football a “disaster,” a comment that prompted maybe my favorite anger email i ever received (did you know there are Rutgers football fans?). This is no longer true; Rutgers is nothing more than an below average football program.

Congratulations on the achievement.

BACK COURT FOOTBALL. When Rutgers played at Ohio State last year, it looked like the Scarlet Knights offense had been designed by a third-year drawing in recess dirt.

But I mean, it worked …

The Scarlet Knights attempted six rounds in last year’s game – a number that doesn’t even include the general bullshit they tried to shoot pretty much every kick-off. Of Rutgers’ 27 points and 373 yards of attacking total, 14 points and 107 yards came straight from trick play.

Honestly, I wasn’t even angry. The rooms were fun as hell and I could only tip my cap. But there’s a good chance I’ll throw my laptop out the window if this stuff starts working again today.

Deceive me once …

WINNERS. Dan went 3-2 instead of me last week, which means we still haven’t had a week of loss this season.

Let’s keep rolling.

  • Ohio State -15 against Rutgers. Ohio State files less than three scores against Rutgers. It is a unique opportunity.
  • Wisconsin -2 vs. Michigan. Is it still September? No? Oh, so the Michigan superpowers are gone. This game is going to suck to watch, but Wisconsin is made for it.
  • Georgia vs. Arkansas under 48.5. I don’t really see a scenario where there are a lot of points scored in this game. Both defenses are solid and neither attack seems particularly interested in being explosive, especially against good teams.
  • Kansas State +11.5 vs. Oklahoma. I don’t think Oklahoma is doing very well this year. The Sooners have been particularly disappointing up front and I expect Kansas State to keep this one close.
  • Oregon -7.5 vs. Stanford. I think Oregon is just way better than any other Pac-12 team, and that includes today at Stanford.

SONG OF THE DAY. “Empire State of Mind” by Jay Z.

DO NOT BOND TO SPORT. How drugs won the war on drugs … Mafia is now doing cybercrime … Family of man who “died at the age of 127” claims he is the most old to have ever lived … Why you get better first impressions than you think … My bipolar mother’s quest for relief with magic mushrooms … The spooky murder of a Chinese student on an American campus , and why justice is elusive …
