Season 8 of Game of Thrones is one of the most animated seasons of television in the history of the medium. So it's not a surprise a lot people listening to watch the first season. But how many people watched episode 1?
HBO announced that episode 1 had attracted 17.4 million viewers, setting a new franchise record, eclipsing the 16.5 million people who watched the season 7 final. According to the Hollywood Reporter 11.8 million people watched television, while the rest was tuned to the HBO Now digital streaming platform. The actual number of views for episode 1 will increase much faster because people who have not watched it right now are catching up over the next few days.
It seems that the return of Game of Thrones has helped other shows on the HBO channel, such as the other shows in the channel, such as Barry (2.2 million viewers), Veep (1.5 million viewers) and Last Week Tonight (1.7 million viewers) have seen in more than a year.
