COLUMBIA – Jamyest Williams, star of the first complete promotion of Will Muschamp in South Carolina, plans to spend Gamecocks.

Sources close to Williams confirmed the transfer to The Post and Courier Monday night. Williams will enter the NCAA transfer portal after his first four games, preserving his red shirt season and will have two years of eligibility.

Williams, of Dacula, GA, chose USC before Georgia before the 2017 season. Considered a Top 100 rookie capable of playing on offense and defense, Williams signed as a defensive back.

He was part of the Freshman All-SEC squad, but had missed two of the last three games with a shoulder injury, a situation he fought in high school. He again injured his shoulder in 2018 and missed the last five games, also staying at the spring training.

Williams has been productive in his USC career with 86 tackles, six broken passes and three interceptions, but was transferred to safety in 2018 to allow the emergence of nickel Jaycee Horn, another Freshman All selection. -DRY. At 5 feet 8 inches, Williams was often the target of opposing quarters at the back and gave up his starting place to R.J. Roderick and J.T. I was last week.
