Gamescom 2019 Conferences: Calendar and News from Geoff Keighley, Xbox, Nintendo and Google

Gamescom 2019 began in earnest and a series of press conferences were held throughout Monday. These have brought a ton of information on recently unveiled games and on upcoming games, big and small. Nintendo started with a showcase of independent Switch games, followed by an Inside Xbox stream, the upcoming Google Stadia Connect and an Opening Night Live event, hosted by Geoff Keighley.

We even had the surprise release of several games on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, with the Alpha test Call of Duty: Modern Warfare soon available for free on PS4. In the meantime, many Gamescom games trailers have made their debut, and we have collected some of our favorites for you to view.

Some of this week's biggest news did not come specifically from official events. Perhaps the most notable example is that we have learned that Sony has bought Insomniac, Marvel's Spider-Man manufacturer.

Gamescom is held annually in Cologne, Germany. The key date for this year is August 20th, when the show begins. However, as it is customary at Gamescom, this day is reserved for press visitors and professional visitors. members of the public can enter from the next day, Wednesday, August 21st. The last show day is Saturday, August 24th. But Monday, August 19th is the big day of news. Google, Xbox and Geoff Keighley

Before the show started, Google hosted its second Stadia Connect presentation, which delivered on its promise of "new trailers" and behind-the-scenes discussions with partner developers. This followed the Inside Xbox presentation, which featured a range of news for Xbox One and PC game fans.

Then the event begins more officially with Gamescom: Opening Night Live. This presentation was hosted by Geoff Keighley and, as promised, brought many announcements and revelations of new games. The last part of the show was devoted to the presentation of Death Stranding, including a preview of the game and the character of Mama. Hideo Kojima appeared on stage to clarify the game, although, as one could expect, it remains largely a mystery.

Showcase of India on Nintendo Gamescom – August 19

The independent showcase of Nintendo opened the series and, as expected, offers some very interesting announcements. While the bulk of the stream was a roulette of independent games on the horizon, Nintendo also surprised us with some games launches. Superhot and Miami Hotline are available on witch now. The biggest news, though, is that Ori and The Blind Forest – a game released for Xbox One and PC by Microsoft Studios – arrives on Switch. Inside Xbox Press Conference – August 19th

It was a fairly standard live Xbox Live streaming from Microsoft, although that does not mean it was missing. There were a lot of trailers and revelations, including the Gears 5 Horde mode, the new Xbox One controller colors, the new Xbox Game Pass games, and so on. Notably, Bungie also appeared on the show to talk about Destiny 2: Shadowkeep; Until now, Destiny had reached an exclusive deal with PlayStation, which meant that the game was usually only presented during Sony events. Stadia Connect Press Conference – August 19th

The Gamescom Stadia Connect event ended and it was a simple presentation filled with trailers. Many of them were destined for games that had not yet been confirmed for Stadia, including Cyberpunk 2077.

Opening night of Gamescom Live – August 19

Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live event is now over, marking the last big event preceding Gamescom on Monday. There have been numerous previews of new games and content, and a variety of news, such as a release date for The Witcher 3 on Switch. Hideo Kojima presented the end of the presentation to talk about Death Stranding and present a new gameplay.
