GameStop gets its own Pokémon card. PokeBeach reports that GameStop will be offering a Flapple Pokemon promo card starting this Friday, March 19. The map is a non-holofoil version of the Flapple from Rebel Clash, but the GameStop logo is stamped underneath the map. While this isn’t the first time GameStop has dealt Pokémon Cards, this is the first time they’ve given out a stamped card. Cards will be issued to any customer who purchases at least $ 15 worth of Pokemon Trading Card Game merchandise.
PokeBeach also reports that GameStop may also offer a Gigantamax Flapple for Pokemon Sword and Shield, although they have not been able to confirm it or not. GameStop has already given away several other Gigantamax Pokémon for Pokemon Sword and Shield with gifts of Pokemon cards.
The freebies are probably an unofficial link for the next release of the “Battle Styles” expansion for the Pokemon Trading Card Game. The set, which is inspired by the Isle of Armor DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield, is slated for release this week and will add a new battle styles mechanic to the card game. Players can build around two different fighting styles, with card abilities synergistic with other cards that use the same style. Like all Pokemon cards, the Battle Styles expansion is expected to be in high demand, so fans may want to head to GameStop early if they want a chance to acquire both the promo card and some cards from the new expansion.
Pokémon cards are relatively rare in many stores today, due to a mix of above-average demand thanks to a surge in popularity and low supply due to production issues caused by the pandemic. The problem with the supply of cards is serious enough that The Pokemon Company has released a public statement saying it will increase production and release reprints of recent games.
