Garth Brooks will join the stars at Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20.

The inaugural presidential committee announced Monday that the country singer will be part of the swearing-in ceremony for the 46th President of the United States alongside previously announced acts Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.

The committee said the future first lady, Dr Jill Biden, had personally contacted Brooks, who joked that he would likely be “the only Republican at the ceremony.” However, he made sure to note that his presence there is about bringing people together, not politics.

On a zoom call delivering the news, Brooks told reporters he found the recent violence that erupted on the US Capitol on January 6 as “disturbing and sad.”

This is not the first time that Brooks has performed at a presidential inauguration. He previously performed at Barack Obama’s swearing-in ceremony in 2008.

“I’ve played for every president since Carter except Reagan. It’s an honor to be able to serve… and that’s one of the things that if my family is there, no matter who the president-elect is, it’s an honor to be asked, ”he told reporters, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and increased security following the January 6 riot that saw hundreds breaching the security of the U.S. Capitol building, Biden’s inauguration will be primarily a virtual experience.
