The Yankees have placed the receiver Gary Sánchez on the list of 10-day wounded with a left calf strain, the team announced on Friday. The move was made retroactively to Thursday, and the club recalled the receiver Kyle Higashioka take the place of Sanchez on the list of active players.

Sanchez is the 12th Yankee player on the injured list, although CC Sabathia's starter is about to be reinstated on Saturday. Sanchez was dismissed from the New York squad on Wednesday after experiencing tension in his lower half during Monday's game against the Astros. He was the designated hitter on Tuesday and was knocked out on Wednesday. The receiver was injured in the groin twice on the injured list last season.

Sanchez took a hot start to the plate, cutting 0.28 / 0.333 / 0.732 with six homers and 11 RBIs. He crushed three home runs – all with an exit speed of at least 108 mph – in the Yankees' 15-3 win Sunday against the Orioles.
