Two of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s children have tested positive for COVID-19 – but Newsom himself does not have the virus, his office said on Friday.
“The governor’s children have tested positive for COVID-19,” Newsom spokeswoman Erin Mellon said in a statement, according to Politico.
“The governor, the first partner and the other two children have since tested negative. The family follows all COVID protocols, Newsoms continued to support the masking of unvaccinated people to stop the spread and advocate for vaccination as the most effective way to end the pandemic. “
Newsom, who has four young children, is coming off a political victory after pushing back special election candidates to retain power in the Golden State earlier this week.
The Newsom family was quarantined for 14 days last fall after three of their children were exposed to a California Highway Patrol officer who was diagnosed with COVID-19.
Earlier this summer, the governor removed two of his children from a basketball camp after learning mask protocols were posted there.
