Steve Jones takes presidential mantle at Gearbox Software, while Pitchford remains CEO of Gearbox Entertainment

Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford changes roles to focus on the studio’s new media ventures. While Pitchford retains his role as CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, he is also president of “Gearbox Studios,” a new company focused on managing external media projects, such as the upcoming Borders movie.

Pitchford revealed the company reshuffle in a statement posted on Twitter, in which he explained his intention to grow and develop a team within the new Gearbox Studios business unit. Pitchford makes it clear in the statement that he will always be involved, creatively, with virtually all of Gearbox Entertainment’s production.

Pitchford posted a diagram to better describe Gearbox Entertainment’s new structure.

“If you’re currently working with me on a creative level, nothing will change,” Pitchford wrote in his statement. “My experience and my institutional knowledge of our brands and franchises will continue to be available to our projects through the existing interfaces and contact points that we use. “

Gearbox Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Steve Jones will assume the role of President of Gearbox Software and will now oversee the development and production of all Gearbox video games. This isn’t Jones’ first rodeo in the development industry, having worked with the studio for more than two decades in starring roles such as CTO on hit releases such as Borders and Borderlands 2.

“The simplest thing I can say is he’s better than me,” Pitchford said of his colleague.
