Gearbox Software Has New President As Randy Pitchford Takes Head Of Gearbox Studios Team

Gearbox software – the developer responsible for the series Borderlands, Brothers in Arms, Battleborn, and more – has a new president as founder and CEO Randy Pitchford just steps from the position at the head of the parent company, The Gearbox Entertainment Company.

Former CTO Steve Jones will be Gearbox Software’s new chairman, replacing Pitchford while the former chairman will oversee the multimedia company’s “explosive transmedia business”.

The often controversial Pitchford shared the announcement on Twitter, supplemented by a rudimentary diagram explaining his position and that of the other members of the personnel of the company following the reshuffle. If you’re confused about the structure of Gearbox Software and The Gearbox Entertainment Company, take a look at the tweet embedded below – it helps illustrate the distinction a bit.

“This decision follows my commitment to our mission to entertain the world and our position to evolve our creative engine through organic growth. Our organization is well positioned for transformative increases in performance and scale,” Pitchford added in a follow-up tweet.

“With several AAA projects underway and many more in our go-ahead pipeline with Gearbox Software, as well as a series of great games from Gearbox Publishing and an explosive transmedia business with Gearbox Studios, we’re just getting started. “

Although Pitchford is moving to a larger role within the company, he will still play a pivotal role at Gearbox Software as a key driver of creative strategy and development across titles and franchises.

“If you’re currently working with me on a creative level, nothing will change,” Pitchford said. “My experience and my institutional knowledge of our brands and franchises will continue to be available to our projects through the existing interfaces and points of contact that we use. ”

The first major project emerging from the “explosive transmedia business” (no, we won’t stop citing it) will be the next Borderlands film, starring Cate Blanchett (Lilith), Jamie Lee Curtis (Dr. Patricia Tannis), Kevin Hart (Roland), Ariana Greenblatt (Tiny Tina), Florian Munteanu (Krieg) and Jack Black (Claptrap).

According to Pitchford, the film will be “authentic in character, tone and style,” but allow independent storylines.

Gearbox Software is currently working on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, which is slated to launch on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S in March 2022.
