New information on the incoming history?

By Miranda Sanchez

Kait Diaz is the leader of Gears 5 and I am absolutely ecstatic. Taking the place of JD as a protagonist means a lot to me personally, but with the way Gears of War 4 has evolved, it makes sense that the story changes perspective. If you have not completed Gears 4, this is your spoiler warning.

The huge cliffhanger of Gears 4 on Kait's heritage opens the door to all kinds of stories. What are grasshoppers really like? How does Kait's family relate to them? And what about the swarm? So many questions, and although we probably have no hint of an answer to E3, I hope we will learn more about the gameplay of Gears 5 on the Microsoft scene.

Gears 5 could very well be the last major release of Microsoft on the Xbox One family before the arrival of the next generation and its release is scheduled for this year. It is therefore almost impossible for us not to learn something important about the flagship franchise. I hope to have new information about the story or some kind of long gameplay demo.

The only way for me to see Gears 5 win a minimum of time on stage is if Microsoft has something bigger to show – let's say maybe the next Xbox? Still, there is still much to learn about Gears beyond its campaign. We have not heard of the Horde, which is as important to Gears' identity as its history at this point. We had a lot of fun with the changes the Coalition made to Gears of War 4 Horde 3.0, and I'm curious to see how the Coalition is looking to improve it.

We know for sure that Gears 5 Versus Multiplayer will not be shown at E3. The Coalition spares this for its six-episode Eleague series that ends with the Gears 5 tournament in July. The Coalition also offers its PC game Gears, Gears Tactics, and its mobile game, Gears Pop. They have both been announced with Gears 5 at E3 2018 and could very well be shown again with the main game.

We know a lot and suspect to be on the Microsoft stage at E3, including Halo Infinite. Be sure to check out our Microsoft Status Scan at E3 and make sure you see all of our E3 coverage in IGN's E3 2019 Event Hub.
