General Motors has confirmed its intention to introduce an electric van in the years to come, but is not ready to disclose all the details yet.
The news comes from Mary Barra, CEO of GM, who said during the call to the first quarter results that the automaker was content to think that a full-size pickup truck was part of the full range of electric vehicles in the process of development.
THE CHOOSING SECRET OF THE FORD F-150 ELECTRIC REVEALED:
By the time it goes on sale, the truck will likely have to compete with the previously announced Ford F-150 electric and a Tesla pickup truck. Ram has yet revealed no firm intention to build a 100% electric model, while Rivian, backed by Ford, is expected to produce a battery – powered mid – size truck by the end of 2020.
THE RIVIAN R1T IS THE NEXT FUTURE ELECTRIC PICKUP:
GM has already built an electric pickup, although it has used a hydrogen fuel cell to produce electricity rather than a large battery pack. The Colorado ZH2 has been designed for military applications and has been tested by the US military, but nothing like this has gone into production. A Silverado Heavy Duty version with high performance off-road suspension has also been proposed.
