The Space Force chief general said on Wednesday that the last military arm may have a public relations problem.

A day after the White House press secretary Jen psakiJen PsakiWhite House Says Space Force Work Will Continue Biden On Immigration Orders: ‘I Eliminate Bad Policies’ Biden Says Condolences To Families Of FBI Agents Killed In Florida MORE appeared to reject the new service during a briefing, Chief of Space Operations Gen. Jay Raymond admitted “it’s hard to understand” the connection between what the Space Force does and how it affects US citizens .

“Space has no mother. You can’t reach out and hug a satellite, you can’t see it, you can’t touch it. It’s hard to have that connection if it’s 22,300 miles above your head, ”Raymond told reporters on a press call. “But there is a very, very, very strong connection between these abilities and our way of life.”

Psaki Tuesday, was questioned during a White House press briefing whether President Biden will keep the Space Force and what would be the scope of his mission.

“Wow, Space Force. It’s today’s plane, ”she replied. “That’s an interesting question. I’m happy to check with our Space Force point of contact. I don’t know who it is. I’ll find out and see if they have any updates on this.”

Following backlash from Republicans who accused her of mocking the military wing, Psaki said the Biden administration would continue to work on the Space Force and invited department heads “to come and visit us in the room. briefing anytime to share an update on their important work. ”

Raymond said he had not had the opportunity to speak to Biden about space although he “welcomes the opportunity.”

“I am very proud of the Guardians of the Space Force. I see the value of this strength every day, ”he said. “I am happy to tell anyone about the great job and would love the opportunity.”

The one-year service has been a breakthrough among the American public since the former President TrumpGeorgia Secretary of State opens investigation into Lin Wood over allegations of illegal voting Schiff presses Newsom to be named California AG: reports Capitol Constable Brian Sicknick is lying in honor to Rotunda MORE began talking about it early on in his presidency, though lawmakers on both sides see it as essential to ensuring the military is focused enough on space to counter China and Russia.

While the Space Force’s internal communications strategy “has been spectacular,” Raymond acknowledged that the American public has yet to fully understand the value of service, which he has in part blamed on the need to “severely classify the threats that exist ”.

He recounted what his mother called him several months ago after watching a TV segment on GPS asking if he knew the Air Force and Space Force were dealing with the technology.

“I’m like, ‘Mom, that’s kind of what I do!’ It’s just hard to understand, ”he says.
