Genesis kicked off their reunion with a performance in Birmingham, England on Monday evening (September 20), bringing together Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford on stage for the first time in 14 years.

After delivering part of the instrumental track “Duke’s End”, the band embarked on the first song of the evening, “Turn it on Again”, the lead single from the Genesis album in 1980. Duke. From there, the band scoured a pair of ’80s hits, “Mama” and “Land of Confusion,” before embarking on a medley that included the first performance of “Fading Lights” in 29 years.

Dusting off classic tunes would prove to be a theme for the night. “That’s All” was first performed since 1998, while “Duchess” spent 40 years between live performances.

Of course, Genesis was sure to mix up many of their most iconic tracks, with “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”, “Throwing It All Away” and “Invisible Touch” all included in the set. As a reminder, the band performed with a rendition of “I Can’t Dance”, followed by a medley of “Dancing With the Moonlit Knight” and “The Carpet Crawlers”.

A fan-shot video of the performance and a full list of sets can be found below.

Collins’ son Nic joined the trio on stage, which took his father’s familiar place behind the drums. Elder Collins struggled with nerve damage in his hands for over a decade and said he could “barely hold a stick” before leaving for the reunion tour.

Genesis initially announced its trip in early 2020, but initial dates have been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The group will continue to perform across the UK before heading to North America for a series of concerts in November and December.
