Game development studio Mihoyo is now adding more content to Genshin Impact with the upcoming “All That Glitters” v1.3 update scheduled for February 3, bringing a new character, new events, new boss and a way get a free 4 Star Character as well as many free Primogems.

You can watch the trailer above to get a sneak peek at all the new changes, or you can watch the full English feed where all the notable changes are developed, or read along as we recap everything on the point to come in the new update. The full changelog for the update is yet to be released, so there are bound to be some smaller changes, bug fixes, and likely quality of life improvements.

New 5-Star Character: Xiao (Anemo, Polearm)

This update brings a new 5-star character in the form of Xiao. From the details given, we know that Xiao is an Anemo character wielding a Polearm.

5 Star characters are generally intended to be “premium” characters, and therefore Xiao will also receive his own banner which will increase the chances of pulling the character through the loot boxes.

But as we mention that Genshin Impact is quite generous to free-to-play players, all players will receive 10 free Intertwined Fates by simply logging into the game for a few days, which they can use on this banner to try their luck. by pulling this new character. Xiao will share his banner with Keqing as there are no new 4-star characters in this update.

Free 4 Star Character

While there are no new 4-star characters in this update, Mihoyo is giving all users a free 4-star character as part of the special “Stand by Me” event.

Genshin Impact - Free 4 Star Character Event

All players who complete the event can choose a 4-star character from Xiangling, Xinyan, Beidou, Ningguang, Xingqiu, and Chongyun. While no details were provided on the event’s tasks, we can expect it to be a bit difficult but still very doable for all players.

As for the character that you need to select as a reward, we suggest that you first choose a character that you don’t have to get a repeat character for his constellation. Xingqiu is a good choice due to his additional “Flash of Genius” talent which gives him a 25% chance to pay off a material account on all used crafting materials. Over time, this will be really beneficial in your upgrades. Alternatively, you can also aim for C4 Xiangling or C1 Ningguang if you already have all of these characters.

Lantern Rite Event

Lantern Rite will be the flagship event of this update, broken down into a few stages. Completing these steps will earn you an event-specific currency that you can use in the event-specific store to exchange Character Ascension Shards, Experience Books, Mora, or Dust of Azoth ( new material).

Theater Mechanicus – Tower Defense Minigame

As part of the Lantern Rite event, we get a new tower defense mini-game. The trailer suggests that players will be able to create, place, and upgrade different towers with different items and mechanics along a path.

Like tower defense games, hordes of enemies will try to pass through the path. Your objective will be to prevent them from reaching the end of the road. Genshin Impact adds its own twist to that by also letting you enter the field with your own character and help you clear choke points or just pass faster.

Primo Geovishap – New Boss

Genshin Impact - New boss of Primo Geovishap

The Primo Geovishap is a new boss arriving in the world of Genshin Impact. This beast appears to be a massively powerful form of the annoying Hatchlings Geovishap. Adding a twist to the story is the fact that this boss can switch between different elements. More details are expected on the boss mechanics, but it certainly changes things up on how party setups will be changed depending on which boss element you’re tackling. The boss will be unlocked thanks to a fact-finding mission that will also pay Primogems and Mora.

Reinforced ley line overflows

Thanks to the new update, Mora and Experience Ley Lines will get a 2x bonus for the first collection. So you can spend 20 resin and get 2 times the usual output of your first collection. This will be a significant boost for players striving to improve their characters.

Miscellaneous changes

These are some of the less exciting changes. There will be a new tab in the Archive section that will show living beings and their models as well as how many times you have defeated those enemies so far. The player profile screen also sees a small refresh, allowing you to choose up to 4 characters that you can show off to your friends. The Alchemy section will now also allow you to transform crystals from one element to another using the Dust of Azoth. It’s not clear how easy or difficult it is to get this new material, but it could change the way players have to tackle boring bosses. Another event will require you to take photos of certain things using the in-game camera tool to get Primogems and other rewards. There is also a Parametric Transformer gadget obtainable, which will allow you to convert elements from one to another.

There’s also a little browser mini-game that you can play right now to get rewards.

The new update will roll out on February 3, 2021, and we can expect events to unfold in a staggered fashion throughout the month.
