Genshin impact, the open-world role-playing game from Chinese developer Mihoyo, will arrive on PlayStation 5 in the spring, Sony announced on Wednesday. In a tweet on the PlayStation account, Sony said Genshin impact will launch on PS5 with “improved graphics, fast loading and support for DualSense controller”.

It included a short trailer alongside the tweet.

Genshin impact is already free on PlayStation 4, with cross-play support between console, mobile and Windows PC. Gamers can currently access the game on PlayStation 5 thanks to backward compatibility. The next version of PlayStation 5 probably won’t be a big change from the version already available – just optimized for the more powerful console. A release date for the PlayStation 5 version has not been announced; Sony has said it will arrive “soon” in the spring.

Genshin impact was originally released in September 2020 on Android and iOS devices, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. It is also expected to arrive on Nintendo Switch. The game was originally shown at E3 in 2019, and people immediately started comparing it to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game is similar in appearance – but gamers love Mihoyo’s game for the way it combines strong RPG influences and gorgeous styling with gacha-inspired gameplay. For that, Genshin impact has quickly become one of the best games of 2020.

Mihoyo kept updating Genshin impact since its release, with new characters and systems rolled out consistently. There is a huge community around the game, a community that spills out outside of the game itself and onto TikTok as well.
